Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Disability is Diversity Campaign?
The Disability is Diversity Campaign is an out-of-home awareness campaign intended to raise the profile of disability as an essential pillar of diversity and to celebrate the diversity that exists within the disability community itself. Our goal is to close the disability representation gap in the entertainment industry, both in front of and behind the camera.
Why did you make the Disability is Diversity Campaign?
Though the prominence of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in media is growing, disability is commonly overlooked within DEI conversations. The unique lens disability offers, and the millions of people who make up the disabled community, remain largely ignored by corporate interests and by representation in entertainment.
The irony of this omission, of course, is that disability is a non-exclusive identity—one that encompasses people who identify as female/non-binary, BIPOC, LGBTQIA, and more. Nevertheless, unless disability is explicitly mentioned—unless disabled talent and representation are deliberately sought out—disabled people are almost never included in DEI efforts. Corporate and non-profit spaces alike need to look to the disabled community as one that can add tremendous value and perspective while helping solve and speak to diversity challenges, especially given a large portion of this community is multiply-marginalized.

How are you tracking progress in the entertainment industry?
While many out-of-home awareness campaigns measure success through their total number of impressions or followers, the Disability is Diversity Campaign tracks our success through visible change in the industry. The Campaign Questions listed on our website are our first step to encouraging this change. Over time, we plan to announce other projects to further facilitate and measure industry-wise change.
